Your Name/what you go by: Jen the Seme
AIM/E-mail/contact info - some way of reaching you: AIM: Aurajen007, Email: aurajen007_shinra@sbcglobal.net
Your character's name (last, first): Lowell, Yuri
Series your character's from: Tales of Vesperia

Background info on your character:

Welcome to the wonderful world of Terca Lumieres, where people rely on technology known as blastia in order to go about their daily lives. Blastia does everything from powering barriers around cities to protecting its citizens from monsters, enhance combative abilities (in this specific case known as bohdi blastia), and generally just powers a lot of stuff. Blastia itself uses something called aer, a substance which is basically all magical energy and whatnot, and being around or consuming too much of it will undoubtedly result in a bad end.

Anyway, Yuri Lowell is a young man who lives in the Lower Quarter (read: where the poor people at) in Zaphias, capital city of the Empire. He was once an Imperial Knight, but that role ended pretty quickly when he became disillusioned with the entire thing due to the corruption and hypocrisy of the higher-ups, etc etc. After he quit, he stayed in the Lower Quarter, helping out his fellow poor folk in any way he could.

One day in the Lower Quarter, a thief runs off with an aque blastia that is needed to power the area's fountain and acts as its water supply. Yuri decides to chase the thief down; this eventually leads him into the castle, where he runs into Estelle who is coincidentally trying to leave the castle and also being chased by guards. Yuri disposes of the guards, and Estelle asks Yuri to help her track down Flynn, Imperial Knight and childhood friend of Yuri, because she has something very important to tell him!!1 Yuri obliges, partly because he knows Flynn and partly because he'll still be on the right track towards hunting down the blastia thief.

And this is the part where I condense many hours of gameplay into a few paragraphs!

So off they go, along with Yuri's loyal canine Repede, gathering clues about the blastia thief and also the whereabouts of Flynn, which conveniently always happen to coincide with each other. In Halure they met the little failure Karol and saved a big tree, and in Aspio they met Rita the blastia researcher who joined the party due to her curiosity concerning Estelle's healing abilities.

Moving along, the party eventually catches up to Flynn, information is exchanged, stuff happens, plot twists that really aren't all that surprising are revealed, a couple more party members are picked up, and we learn that Estelle is a Child of the Full Moon and has the potential to ruin things for the entire world. Apparently since her healing artes (that don't require the use of a blastia!) screw with the balance of aer so badly, a big calamity called the Adephagos is going to show up and destroy everything, isn't that lovely.

Of course this isn't revealed until she's attacked by a flying Entelexeia (also known as big furries) and the party goes on a trek across the desert to find this big bird named Phaeroh, followed by a journey to the Krityian city to find out even more about the situation. Then surpraiz, Estelle is kidnapped and brought to Commandant Alexei who wants to use her powers to take over stuff, and fellow party member Raven is revealed to be Captain Schwann of the Imperial Knights and helped in the kidnapping!! (but that's okay, he redeems himself later ;A;), so Yuri and gang spend the next several hours of gameplay time finding the means to rescue Estelle.

And they eventually do, after defeating Alexei atop the Shrine of Zaude, but unfortunately they don't stop him before he accidentally unleashed the Adephagos oops.

The group comes up with a plan to stop the impending doom through the process of converting apatheia (highly condensed aer that dead Entelexeia leave behind) into spirits! And then converting all the blastia of the world into an energy weapon that can stop the Adephagos yaaaay. Oh, and did I mention there's this one guy named Duke who had been assisting the Yuri gang all throughout the game, but surpraiz, tells them that he plans on stopping the Adephagos by using the life force of everyone in the world?

So then everyone has to go and stop Duke in order to save the world! But you know, that part really doesn't matter since Yuri will be taken from when they're trying to find all the main elemental spirits.

As for personality, Yuri is described as "loud-mouthed and sarcastic", courtesy of the game booklet. Though this is overly simplified, it's also true to a certain extent. Yuri does enjoy using dry sarcasm in a lot of conversations with others, though not to the extent of rubbing off as too much of a huge jerkface. He also makes a habit of being pretty blunt sometimes and doesn't hesitate to say what's on his mind, which might account for the loud-mouth part? All in all, however, Yuri's main concern is with helping others in need and doing it his way, even if this means being considered a criminal in the eyes of others. He'll go out of his way to aid someone, never mind the fact if it inconveniences him or even puts his life in danger. So much so that, as noted a couple of times in the game, he tends to take on all the burdens of a certain problem without sharing it with anyone else. (He even left his companions and went out on his own once, but they soon tracked him down and beat him up for it, so. >:) He gets a little better with this closer to the end of the game, however.

It also gets pointed out a lot that Yuri has difficulty showing what he's really feeling, although he's by no means extremely cold and stand-offish. He's quite able to hold casual conversation and even joke around; on the other hand, if he thinks you're an idiot, he won't hesitate to tell you. Taking that even further, during srs business moments, he can be pretty intense and even harsh with his words, depending on who he's talking to.

Yuri also loves the challenge of a good fight and is more than adequate with the sword. Just so you know.

Sample post: (First person point of view, please)

Okay, I'm starting to think that the World Map needs updating; there's no sign of an island in this part of the ocean, though you would think that we would have run into it sometime during our journey across Terca Lumieres. We've been just about everywhere else, that's for sure. It might be a pleasant surprise if the monsters here are any of a challenge to fight.

...What, no comment from the peanut gallery?

...

Alright, well, looks like I'm just standing here talking to myself. And now I've got this nasty feeling that everyone is going to think I ran off without telling anyone again. If that's the case, I had better prepare myself for some unjustified kicking, punching, and otherwise general abuse. Unjustified because I honestly have no idea where this is, much less have a reason to be here.

Future unwanted beatings aside, that's enough standing around. Better get a move on and see if I can stumble across any clues concerning where 'here' is and how I can--

What's that supposed to be? A wanted poster?

[WANTED: YURI LOWELL]

...I don't know what's more insulting; the poster itself, the portrait, or the so-called reward.

This better just be someone's idea of a joke. Too bad I'm not exactly splitting my sides.

A list of things your character might have on them after they got snatched up and put on this island:
His sword
Bohdi blastia
Misc. gels and other useful healing items

So I kinda want to have Johan make someone see one of his "illusions" or "visions" one of these days.  Mainly for the lulz and because it would be something that he would do if he were a) very bored or b) feeling more psycho than usual.  Maybe a mixture of the two?

Sort of like what he did with Schuwald, making him see a lake instead of a construction site, and with Tenma, sharing with him his vision of the end, etc. etc.  Though if he did that with someone on island, the end result might be slightly traumatic for the victim viewer?  Since I can't see Johan forcing someone to see a vision that they would like to see, especially if Johan himself has nothing to gain from it.  It would probably be something more along the lines of... dark and depressing.  Or at least making people go "omg wtf just happened D8".

Though there's's the slight problem that when he does this in canon, it's sort of... vague how it works.  Actually, I take that back.  It's very straight forward.  Johan talks to you.  Possibly looks you in the eye.  And BAM hey your surroundings are suddenly different.

H-he's just that good...?

Anyway, I think it would be fun to do.  ...For Johan, at least. :<

God I should get to bed.

SO I DON'T BECOME MORE CONFUSED THAN I ALREADY AM:

Not quite sure about the searching of the "true self", but that's apart of a huge discussion on the ending in general, so I'm not even going to get into that.  BUT YAY TIMELINE.

Okay, WAIT WHAT?

Damn lack of "Another Monster" updates.  DAMN LACK OF COHERENT TRANSLATION ON THEIR PART/COMPREHENSION ON MY PART.

Timeline is so damn screwy.  HOW LONG WAS JOHAN IN THE HOSPITAL?  3 YEARS?!  What, no.  How could that boy be stuck in the hospital bed for three years?

Does that even make sense?  Because Nina was graduating, and wasn't she already in the middle of school near the beginning?  Oh wait, Nina was 20.  I'm 20.  I'm a sophomore.  I HAVE TWO MORE YEARS, NOT THREE?

It explains the newspaper clippings in the last episode, but...

OMG WHAAAAT. DX

I officially don't know my Monster timeline, anymore.

Because I'm bored:

There's a guy in my philosophy class named Johan.  He sits in the front, but never really says anything.  (Neither do I, though.)  I've always found that fairly amusing, but today was... er... moreso.  I quote his friend who sits behind him:

"JOHAN PUSHES PEOPLE INTO STICKER PATCHES!  HE'S GOING TO GROW UP TO BE A SERIAL KILLER!"

I nearly died.  And no one knew why.

From Wiki:

The manga is licensed in English by Viz Communications, with the release of the sixth volume scheduled for December 2006. New Line Cinema has also recently acquired rights to create an English language film version. Josh Olson, whose best-known work has been adapting A History of Violence in 2005, has agreed to write a screenplay adaptation for the movie, and also script a second Monster movie for the studio.

...say WHAT?! Why wasn't I told about this?!

Re-watching Monster episodes lately. I think now I'm convinced of something.

Johan had issues before Kinderheim. O_o; Although it's obvious that the orphanage wasn't the best thing for him (the tape Tenma hears proves this. Lol. Drugged up Johan. XD), the thing with transferring experiences of the Red Rose Mansion? Yeaah.

Man, this guy is way complex. I'm going to have to take my time developing him.
